A handful of years and change ago, I was one of many young drum students at Berklee, trying to
figure out what place music had in my life. When you’re in the thick of that process, every single person
you meet, every show you play, every hour spent in the practice room seems magnified, as though your
musical future depends on this person, or show, or hour spent practicing paradiddles (spoiler: it doesn’t)
The atmosphere at music school feeds into this mania. Berklee’s tag at the time was network network
network, a sentiment that doesn’t quite touch on the real truth of a musical life (it does however fill your
phone with the phone numbers of strangers met in line for coffee, “call me if you ever need a…”) At risk of
sounding cheesy, or overly sentimental, friendship is often what makes or breaks a musical life.
This EP has found it’s way to your ears through the hard work and generosity of a handful of
people that I’m lucky to count as friends (I’ll tell you all about them momentarily.) Such being the case,
I’ve decided that the fruits of our labor should be passed on. This music will be released through The
Music Clubhouse at the Boys & Girls Club of Lowell, the proceeds will be put towards the purchase of
drum heads, sticks and strings.
The musicians you hear on this recording, Mike Caudill, Chris Brown and Sven Larson were kind
enough to spend their time and energy on my music; rehearsing, performing and ultimately lending their
own voices to it, something that I consider, being relatively new to the world of composing my own music,
to be the highest of compliments. Jeremie Inhaber brought us into the studio to record these songs a
mere 24 hours before moving across the country (and made us feel as though we had all the time in the
world through the whole process), and finally, Jeremy Mendicino, a musician and friend of the highest
order, generously offered his ears and expertise (also of the highest order) to master the music on this
release.
Thanks for supporting us, this music, and the kids over at The Music Clubhouse. Thanks to you,
there will be plenty more music from us all in the future.
